But all of the money he earned went on gambling and prostitutes and he was getting himself deeper and deeper in debt. With creditors breathing down his neck he bought a car on a hire purchase agreement, then sold it for cash and used the money to flee to Thailand. The debts he left behind amounted to over £40,000.

Wright was back in the UK in 2000, taking and losing a succession of jobs, usually due to dishonesty. In 2006, he started a relationship with a woman named Pamela Wright (no relation) and the two moved to a small flat in Ipswich. He found work as a forklift driver while his partner worked the nightshift at a call center. That gave Wright the perfect opportunity to start trawling for prostitutes again. On October 31, 2006, he picked up Tania Nicol. By now, sex was no longer enough for him.
